Dhyanalinga
Isha Yoga Center, foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains, near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
A meditation space at the foot of the Velliangiri Mountains, consecrated by Sadhguru in 1999, which he describes as a place to simply sit.
What the texts say
- Lineage text
In her introduction to the book, Arundhathi Subramaniam writes that the Dhyanalinga was established in 1999 at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains through prana pratishtha, a yogic process of consecration, after several turbulent years. She reports that Sadhguru describes it as Shiva in an abstract energy form rather than as a god or an idol.
Adiyogi: The Source of Yoga, Sadhguru and Arundhathi Subramaniam, "BEFORE THE BEGINNING"
- Lineage text
Sadhguru explains that one reason seekers are told to sit in a sacred place like the Dhyanalinga, or to go on yatras, is that the right spaces and company can wear down the karmic body.

A practice for this place
The guidance at the Dhyanalinga itself is simple, and we would not add to it: sit, rest your eyes on the linga for a few minutes, then close them, palms upturned on your lap. No worship or effort to meditate is asked for. Stay as long as you like, in silence.
